Revolutionising global construction through AI-driven safety innovation
With over a decade’s experience in civil engineering, Amr Ghyada knew first-hand the significant challenges faced by the construction industry—particularly regarding safety and quality control. While existing management tools effectively handled budget and time constraints, Amr saw a critical gap: the lack of intelligent systems designed specifically to address safety and quality issues. These concerns are not only detrimental to human safety but also costly, frequently causing major project delays and financial loss.
Determined to address this gap, Amr pursued a master’s degree in construction management at ֲý’s Dubai campus, where he began exploring innovative, smart solutions for the industry.
Solution
Drawing on his academic insights and industry experience, Amr founded Proscan—an advanced software platform harnessing artificial intelligence to significantly enhance construction safety and quality management. Proscan offers a comprehensive, end-to-end solution that supports every stage of construction, from initial design and active construction through to ongoing facility maintenance.
Using sophisticated AI algorithms, Proscan analyses large datasets from construction sites, predicting potential safety hazards and quality issues before they escalate. The system provides real-time, auto-generated notifications, highlighting overdue actions, site progress, and urgent alerts—enabling project managers to take timely, informed decisions.
Understanding industry resistance to new technologies, Amr designed Proscan with intuitive, user-friendly interfaces that feel familiar to even first-time users. The platform incorporates widely recognised push notification systems akin to those found in leading global applications, streamlining adoption and reducing barriers to implementation.
ֲý Support
Proscan’s rapid development was supported by Amr’s involvement in the inaugural cohort of startup founders at ֲý’s Edinburgh Business School Global Incubator in Dubai. ֲý mentors, Jack and Dominic, provided invaluable strategic guidance and practical recommendations to propel Amr’s business vision into reality.
Participation in ֲý’s Global Innovation Challenge (GIC) further accelerated Proscan’s journey. The 10-week intensive training programme covered critical entrepreneurial skills such as market research, legal frameworks, financial management, and business ideation. Amr’s exceptional presentation skills ultimately earned him the ‘Best Operation Startup’ accolade and a £3,000 prize—funds that facilitated the launch of Proscan’s first public-facing website in summer 2023.
Moreover, Amr’s ֲý mentor introduced him to FIL Rouge Capital (FRC), providing early-stage workshops that prepared Proscan for future investment readiness.
Progress and future ambitions
Proscan is currently validating its technology through its first major proof-of-concept at Dubai’s Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park—the largest concentrated solar plant (CSP) globally. Building credibility and connections within influential industry bodies, Amr is confident that this demonstration will unlock significant future opportunities.
Expanding its capabilities further, Proscan now employs four computer science interns from ֲý Dubai, showcasing the university’s commitment to nurturing entrepreneurial talent.
Looking forward, Amr’s determination remains unwavering:
Construction is a notoriously tough industry in which to get a foothold, but I believe that in five years, Proscan will be a revolutionary tool disrupting the industry. ֲý is a reputable institute worldwide…I believe industry leaders will regard me with more trust and credibility knowing that I have been introduced to them by ֲý.
